Laser Eye Surgery
There is a wealth of information available on the internet for
prospective laser eye surgery customers. We are able to offer the
safest blade free Lasik with Wavefront or surface laser treatments to
correct short-sight (myopia), long-sight (hypermetropia) and
astigmatism. Our aim is not to be the cheapest but simply to inform
you what is best for your eyes- which for some customers may be no
surgery at all. For many customers however, laser eye surgery to
the cornea is not the best solution and unlike many high street laser
centres, as Consultant Eye Surgeons we are able to offer the whole
spectrum of refractive surgery options and can direct you towards
the safest and most appropriate procedure for your eyes. Almost
any amount of myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism can be treated
using different lens implants or a combination of implants and laser
eye surgery (which is called bioptics). Mr Qureshi who performs the
laser eye surgery is one of a handful of surgeons in the UK who has
undertaken a corneal and laser refractive fellowship and has
performed over 6000 refractive procedures to date.
Corneal Transplantation
Corneal Transplantation Surgery has undergone huge advances over
the last decade. No longer is the whole cornea transplanted but only
the part which is affected, whilst making the procedure much safer
and reducing the chances of rejection. The London Eye Hospital is at
the forefront of this transformation having pioneered some of the
work a decade ago. Our current research projects include growing
corneal endothelial cells in the laboratory for transplantation which
do not cause any rejection and also reduce the need for donor
corneas.
We perform endothelial cell transplantation (DSEK) and anterior
partial thickness corneal transplants (DALK) as well as the traditional
full thickness transplants (penetrating keratoplasty).
Plastic Surgery around the eyes
We are able to offer surgery to reduce the amount of excess skin on
the upper and lower eyelids (blepharoplasty) to give a more youthful
appearance. We also collaborate with Consultant Plastic Surgeons to
combine this with a face lift and can also offer the usual range of
non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers and Botox.
Complex reconstructive surgery
Our surgeons are some of the most experienced in the UK and are
reconstruction of the front of the. This may involve special sutured
lens implants, reconstruction of the iris and corneal transplantation or
the use of artificial corneas.
