What is Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?
At the centre of the retina is an area called the macula. It is the most
sensitive part of the retina and is responsible for detailed colour vision.
AMD is a degenerative condition of the macula associated with getting
older. Macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in
people over 60 in the UK and usually affects both eyes.
